Are you getting enough Vitamin D?

We understand the Government are due to advise the public to start taking a daily dose of Vitamin D, as they are not getting enough sunshine during the Coronavirus lockdown. 

Public Health England (PHE) previously recommended everyone should take a 10 microgram supplement of vitamin D during the autumn and winter months. Sunshine exposure during the spring and summer meant this was not necessary for most people. 

We anticipate that this guidance will be updated this week recommending that everyone should take the supplement, as the Coronavirus lockdown has reduced the public’s sun exposure. 

Experts believe vitamin D could also reduce an individual’s "susceptibility” to the Coronavirus, as research has also shown it can help protect against acute respiratory infections.

A study published in the BMJ in 2017, which pulled data from 25 clinical trials, showed the supplement can help prevent acute respiratory tract infections, particularly among those with a vitamin D deficiency.
